My Frankfurt-based legal team engaged Mr. Berrisch to represent me at a conciliation hearing in Gießen following my termination. Despite providing comprehensive documentation well in advance, during our pre-hearing call it became evident he was not familiar with basic aspects of my case. The call had to be cut short specifically because of this lack of preparation, and we agreed I would resend the materials. During our conversation immediately before the hearing, I found myself having to correct misunderstandings about important facts clearly stated in the documentation I had provided. Despite my severance expectations being included in the documentation, I attempted several times to discuss them to make sure we were on the same page, but he insisted this was unnecessary, claiming he would simply ask the opposing side to make the first offer. In the hearing, when the opposition proposed zero severance and he was asked for a counter-proposal, Mr. Berrisch stated a figure without consulting me. When I quietly expressed my disagreement and stated my actual expectations, he exclaimed loudly for all parties to hear: "Das ist aber viel!" ("That's too much!"). During the proceedings, he also presented information that contradicted what was clearly documented in my written materials, including some of the same key points I had specifically addressed in our pre-hearing conversation just minutes earlier. I was left with the feeling that my case wasn't given the attention I expected and I'm relieved that this was only a conciliation hearing.
